It is easy to wheel, it is nimble in parking lot playing around, and more importantly, you can thread your way through the technical trails with ease. The Stache delivers on its agility promise. The idea behind this complex construction is simple: the tighter into the frame you can bring the tire, the closer it will be to the center of the bike, the shorter the chainstay will be, the shorter the wheelbase will be, and the agiler the bike will be. In effect, you will see the chainring over the back tire. The chainstay on the Stache is a-symmetrical, with the chain running underneath the chainstay to be able to bring the bottom bracket much closer. I love it.To begin with the wheelbase: Trek has managed to place the wheel very “deep” into the frame. IMHO, a good fork and a dropper seatpost would be my first upgrades on a Stache 7 (if I didn't like the fork).ĬRC has the 29" Manitou 120mm 15QR Tower Pro w/tapered steerer for $320 right now (a steal at that price IMHO). Then get something with a slightly wider inner rim width. If the stock wheels are holding up, I would ride them like a rented mule until they give up. I think a Manitou Tower (Pro or Expert) would be a superb fork for this frame. If it does not perform that well, get something worthy on there. I have no idea if the stock fork on a Stache 7 leaves something to be desired. The frame being designed for a 120mm fork, the rear chainstay brace, and the 68.6° headtube angle make this frame ready for a little more than standard XC action and does it confidently. Having ridden mine with and without a dropper seatpost, I much prefer one on this bike than a standard seatpost. ![]() The stealth routing for a dropper seatpost, the ISCG 05 tabs on the BB shell, and provisions for cable routing for a standard dropper if you forego a stealth model are just waiting for your upgrades. It has got a LOT of features just waiting to be utilized. The Stache frame is worthy of upgrading IMHO.
